I do agree that people should worry less about the length of their stay with a company and proactively seek other opportunities as a means to progress their careers. In my experience, I can tell you I have seen a change in the perceptions towards those candidates that change jobs every 2-3 years, but most hiring managers I have dealt with are quick to question those that “hop” jobs.

I’ve been struggling with this “find your passion” and “do what you love” language for some time now. But unfortunately it does not work for me. I find it interesting that everyone who looks for career advancement uses the tools laid out in this guide - even if they don’t know it. When looking for a leg up what is the first thing people do - they turn to people they know. Their resume is filled with things that they are good at and hopefully shows what they excel at. And Lastly, when they land that promotion they want to make the impression that they are likeable. It’s just common sense - and I think it is great advice to use these tools ALL the time to make that name for yourself.
